The best way to show how the system is used and why it can save you money is by stepping through an example. Below, is an example of a direct coverage project. Please note that the charts displayed on these pages are from actual charts generated by coChart Web that were converted to be used for internet use. The actual charts are much clearer and precise.

If you would like to see how the system actually works and how charts will look and print, you can login and use an actual project. To login, go to the Login section and enter "guest1" for the user name and password. Make sure you download and install the special viewer to view the charts in their original metafile format.

Example
In this example, we will create a project for "ACME International Paper Products" showing it’s direct coverage since the company started in 1975.

After digging through many documents, the following table of policies and their coverage was created (Table 1). Using a table like this one makes it easier when entering data into the system.

Policy Name Insurer Start Date End Date Limit Excess Part Of (PO) Deductible
HT-392 Omega 10/1/75 10/1/76 100k 0   10k
FHFHD-293 Beta 10/1/76 10/1/77 100k 0   10k

Table 1

Once you have collected your data, you can begin entering it into the system. First, log in to the system. Next, create a new project and call it "ACME International Paper Products". This will allow you to later identify it and keep their data separate from the others. Now that you have a project created, you can enter the policies from the table above.

The first chart we want to define will display all our policies proportionally spaced on both the x-axis and the y-axis. This will give us the most realistic representation of our data. We will call this "Chart1 - Prop X, Prop Y".

At this time, we could define another chart that would view our data in another way. However, we’ll first view our chart and come back later.

Now that we have data and defined a chart, we can now see our coverage for the company. When we select the View option, the system will generate the chart, display it, and offer several different formats for you to download if desired.

If we used the default chart settings, we will have generated the following chart.

There are three summary reports that you can generate for each project you have in the system. They can be used to verify your data or simply to give you a hard-copy of the data you have in your project. There are three reports to choose from:
  • Policy Listing
  • Chart Listing
  • Insurer Listing
In our final step, we’re going to create another chart as our final chart. This final chart will print proportionally in the x-axis but evenly spaced in the y-axis. We will automatically remove gaps in policy coverage, add vertical lines, add additional hash marks on the y-axis every ½ and 1/4 hash mark, and generate it in color.

To add this final chart, we go back to the charts section and select Add from the menu items. We name the chart "Final Chart - Prop X, Step-Y". Then we set the other attributes outlined above and save it when we’re done.

To view the chart, select View from the menu and our final chart is generated and displayed. Chart 2 shown below is the result of our final chart view.

One of the great features of using coChart Web is when changes are made. Adding or deleting policies will automatically be updated in ALL your charts. Once you have completed making your changes, simply view each chart and print.

To finish our example, lets add the policies in table 2 below to our project.

Policy Name Insurer Start Date End Date Limit Excess Part Of (PO) Deductible
TJWOW-393 Zeta 10/1/81 10/1/82 500k 500k
FH-393 Iota 5/1/82 9/30/82 3m 1m
Table 2

If we go back and view both charts we previously defined, we get the following charts.

chart3a.gif
Chart 3
chart4a.gif
Chart 4

Notice how the newly entered policies are added to the existing chart and how all the other policies automatically adjust to the attributes defined in each chart. Try doing that manually!

TRY IT!!
Simply go to the Login section and enter "guest1" for both the Login Name and Password.
NOTE:
All the charts shown on this web site were generated by coChart Web. However, they have been converted from their native metafile format, and quality was lost. To view them in their original, crisp, clear format, login and view your charts online.
